I AM WORRIED BUT MOST EVERYBODY IS AND THAT IS GOOD
Obama is eloquent. He also acts, and Shakespeare said, “Action is eloquence. ”
His actions violate Will Rogers’ opinion that political platforms always “Promise everything and deliver nothing.” Obama and the Democratic led Congress are delivering, but the actions are not easing concerns about the economy and fiscal responsibility.
Obama got Congress to act on a stimulus pacakage. The problem is Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid delivered a plan from Congress with too little for distressed states and too much for later years. But they were handicapped by members more used to approving pet projects and decreasing taxes.
We needed a stimulus. Washington’s budget crisis would be far worse without it. Concerned citizens changed the minds of Governors who postured as candidates for the presidency in 2012 by announcing they would not take situmulus funds.. Expecting people’s support in 2012 while not helping them today doesn’t work.
Concern about the stimulus dropped Obama’s approval rating and increased Pelosi’s disapproval rating according to independent pollster Rasmussen Reports.
Will Rogers understood. “We are a funny people. We elect our presidents, and then go home and start daring them to make good.”
Obama made good on his promise for an honest budget that reveals where money would be spent. Remember Congress approved budgets that did not include spending for the war in Iraq. An honest budget is fiscal eloquence.
The budget also delivers promises on universal health care, green energy programs, and a tax cut on incomes less than $250,000 a year.
Obama’s platform promise on fiscal responsibility meet Roger’s expectation. He promised everything and delivered nothing. Budget deficits are astounding through 2019.
Program concerns are mixed with distractions of bank bonuses or CEO firings. My head is buzzing with worries. I want effective action and less posturing. I no longer watch media mouths defending me from evil such as Lou Dobbs on socialsim and Keith Olberman on right wingers.
People see ineffective action. Rasmussen Reports finds the historically low approval ratings of Congress and Republcan leadership have stayed low. Obama’s ratings are still positive, but people are worried.
On March 15 pollsters Douglas E.. Schoen and Scott Rasmussen reported on Rasmussen Reports that Gallup polls “show that there are deep-seated, underlying economic concerns. Eighty-three percent say they are worried that the steps Mr. Obama is taking to fix the economy may not work and the economy will get worse. Eighty-two percent … are worried about the amount of money being added to the deficit. Seventy-eight percent are worried about inflation growing, and sixty-nine percent say they are worried about the increasing role of the government in the U.S. economy.”
People understand the key issues and eventually get their message to political leaders, as they did the foolish governors-would-be-presidents.
Leaders, solve our main worries because as Will Rogers said, “This country is not where it is today on account of any man. It is on account of the big normal majority.” And that’s us under these clear skies.
